2) Exercise your muscles. Yes, although it is a musical instrument, you will still need strong hands to hold the guitar. I remember when I bought my yamaha acoustic guitar; it almost fell out of my hands because they were so tired of holding the instrument.

Alleluias and Hallelujahs

Two words synonomous with the Christmas spirit are Alleluia and Hallelujah. They are titles of some of the most traiditional favorites of the christmas music for orchestra repertoire. Although it was not necessarily intended as a Christmas work, Vivaldi’s “Gloria” is part of the tradition. Mozart’s “Alleluia” was never intended as Christmas music and has rarely been performed as part of the holiday season, though it would make a nice change. The words Alleluia and Hallelujah were taken directly from the scriptures as spoken by the angels. They exude the joy of the season and the adulation of the Christ child. The Alleluia has been part of the Catholic liturgy for centuries. Handel’s “Hallelujah!” was first performed in Dublin, Ireland. At that performance nothing unique happened when the time came for that chorus. In the following year, the “Messiah” was given its London premiere. So moved was King George (a good friend of Handel’s) that he stood. When the king stood, everyone else did so too. A tradition was begun.

There’s rock, metal and country guitar but none of them hold a candle to the feeling and soul that goes into playing blues guitar. Whether its on an acoustic or electric guitar, blues guitar lessons is a style all it’s own. It’s a style that brings amazing feel to both the listener and the performer since no two notes are ever the same and it’s not as much about memorizing how to play an exact part as it is about just learning to move around the guitar neck and play what comes naturally. I’m a huge fan of blues guitar and feel that if you really want to learn this is the style you should look to. All other styles of guitar will come to you much easier if you learn the blues scales, progressions and theory. After all if you know anything about music history more people were supposedly influenced by the blues then any other style.

Musical Instrument for My Son

The other day I was practicing my new piano lessons for beginners program and suddenly my son came and started looking at me playing the piano with great fascination. Then he asked me what instrument I think he should play and I asked him what he himself liked and told him that it was important to do whatever he himself wanted to do and felt was the right thing to do. He thought about this for a moment and then he pointed to me piano learning software and said that he wanted to play the piano and be as good as I was at playing different songs. At first I was a little nervous and thought about whether or not my 4 year old son could actually use my piano learning software in order to learn how to play the piano. After a couple of months he is now better than me!

Seeing Shakespeare in London

I’ve always been a real Shakespeare fan. I think I have a complete collection of all of his plays in written form, and I’ve seen most of the movies of his plays as well. Of course there’s been so many movies made about his plays it’s impossible to have seen them all. One thing I always dreamed of is going to see a play of Shakespeare in London. I don’t think seeing his plays anywhere else would be the same. It’s like eating hot dogs in Coney Island. You can eat hotdogs in any other place, but it’s not a Coney Island hot dog unless you’re in Coney Island. It’s the same way with Shakespeare. It’s not like the original unless you’re in London. Lately I’ve been thinking about going and seeing a Shakespeare play in London sometime in the fall, but I have to see if I can save up enough money for the plane ticket.

I'm Happy People Still Buy Sheet Music

I know, the fact that they do should be a no-brainer, shouldn’t it? But with everything becoming so digitized these days, I’m surprised that pianos don’t come with a CDROM drive that allows the digital sheet music to display for the piano player. They may actually have those, in fact, I don’t know. But the paper is still available and people still buy sheet music, and I hope it stays that way for years to come. There is just something about watching a performer reading the music, so intent on what they are playing, yet able to turn the sheets to the next part without missing a beat. I’m sure digital sheet music might be more convenient for them — or at least I think so, but something would be lost, in my opinion. Perhaps that sense of awe at what they are able to accomplish; or just that sense of the connection between the musician and the music itself.

Cambridge Folk Festival 2010

Cambridge Folk Festival ( July 29 – August1) is a superior once-a-year music festival organized at Cherry Hinton in Cambridge. The festival was found in 1964 and it has turned out to be essentially the most spoken festival of its kind. No matter what anyone tells you, NOT every guitar out there is good for you. This also applies to Ibanez rg series of electric guitars. Let’s look at how to know which one is actually right for you…

i. Choose a guitar that’s made for your music style. If you tried playing rock with a banjo, you won’t get the desired effects. But then it won’t be because you are a bad player but because you are using the wrong instrument.

Every style has voices and nuances that are associate with it and certain guitars are just tailor made to delive those very effectively.

ii. Your playing level is also another critical factor that you should consider when buying a guitar. It is totally unwise to by a $4k electric guitar when you are just learning to hold your chords. Apart from the fact that you’d be better off spending a part of that money on getting the best instruction, you might actually damage the guitar because you don’t know enough to keep it safe.

Getting a young drummer to practice

Yes. A drummer needs to practice! It is every parents nightmare really, a drum set coming into the house! However the young drummer must practice just as much as any other young musician. If a child is going to improve on any musical instrument, then regular practice is an absolute must. When the drum set is brand new there won’t be any issue getting them out there and practicing, but later things will struggle. Drum students often just start with a pair of sticks and a drum pad, and then get a drum set later. A mistake I see parents make is that they think that when they are getting a drum set that the child will suddenly practice! This is not true. If they don’t practice on the drum pad, then they won’t practice on the drum set either in the long term. What you need to do is set up a routine and expectation, perhaps track it with a Music Practice Chart, and then once they have proven that they can have the discipline to practice on a drum pad you can then move onto the drum set.
